One of the interesting trendsboth nationally and in MA is that women's unemployment rates are lower than men's during this recession. These differences are the result of women being in jobs in industries shedding fewer jobs. Yet women do not bring home as much of the loaf as the 'breadwinners' and the wide and persistent wage gap is aggravated as household income is more affected due to greater male unemployment. Just another reason to promote gender equality as we attempt to move out of this recession.
