This is the season for absenteeism. Between our record setting snowfall in New England and flu season, lots of people are having a hard time making it out of their driveways, let along making their way to work. While employers can't control the weather or the flu virus, there are insights they can leverage to decrease the impact of these and other absence drivers in the workplace.
Last week I had a conversation with Evren Esen, director of survey programs at the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), and Sue Meisinger, executive management columnist, speaker, and consultant, as well as the former president and CEO of SHRM, to discuss the recently released global absenteeism study, Total Financial Impact of Employee Absences. We worked with SHRM to conduct this global study, with the objective of understanding how organizations around the world are managing employee absence.
